Position Summary
The Health Professions (HP) Research/Grants Accountant is responsible for managing the day-to-day flow of pre-and post-award financial administration of sponsored research projects and grants for all of the health professions schools of the University.
Reporting to the Grants Accounting Manager in the Comptroller's Office, the Health Professions Research/Grants Accountant is responsible for the budget development of grant proposals, review of requests for proposals, meeting with faculty and other project directors or principal investigators to plan proposal budgets and review and upload them through the university grants approval portal per UIW policy and processes, assisting with review of financial reports required by sponsors, creating and discussing monthly financial reports with key stakeholders, completing and tracking billing agreements with partner institutions and timely submission of progress reports, identifying and resolving issues that arise throughout the life cycle of the award, sub-recipient monitoring on sub-awards/contracts, re-budget requests, financial projections, maintaining accounting records and reconciliations, budget reconciliation, no-cost extension and carry-forward requests, and ensuring compliance with Federal and University cost principles. The Health Professions Research and Grants Accountant understands the UIW HP programs and services, and the processes and resources required to support them and serve as a resource and advisor to administrators, chairs, faculty and staff regarding grant budgets and financial grant management.
This position is considered a Responsible Employee under Title IX federal regulations and Mandatory Reporter under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Description of Job Duties
- Provide expert financial research and grants administration to support the HP schools, playing a key role in the coordination of research and grant activities including special projects and oversight of complex programs;
- Monitor project expenditures, including monthly assessments of fund activity, thereby preventing overruns; make recommendations of actions as necessary; prepare and maintain financial analysis and forecasting on a timely and ongoing basis;
- Serve as liaison to other UIW departments including Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Purchasing, and oversee all billing and A/R activities for research and grants as required;
- Be responsible for the timely and accurate submission of granting agency reports;
- Advise regarding the allowability of costs to be charged to a grant; work with UIW Grants Accounting Office and HP personnel to resolve complex accounting issues;
- Provide development and delivery of training programs related to financial pre- and post-award administration of grants, and continuing education for school and departmental personnel regarding regulations and requirements set forth by the federal and state governments and other grantors

- Provide exceptional customer service to the schools principal investigators and department and/or office administrators to establish budgets and coordinate training regarding financial policies and procedures;
- Responsible for procedural compliance and maintain internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data and/or systems that support grant accounting;
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures and business processes to ensure compliance with federal, state and all other regulatory bodies governing financial grant compliance;
- Work in conjunction with the UIW Grants Accounting Office on issues related to interdepartmental policies and procedures regarding the post-award financial administration of research and grant activity;
- Stay current regarding new regulations and requirements regarding federal and other sponsored grant activity as well as UIW fiscal policy;
- Cross-train supporting accounting staff as needed;

Description of Job Duties
- Monitor and analyze restricted fund accounts;
- Review and approve related transactions (revenue and expenditures);
- Perform restricted account administration by establishing fund records, policies and procedures, and timetables;
- Work closely with budget managers to establish budgets and handle procedural matters;
- Maintain communication with budget managers to ensure account accuracy;

- Ability to prepare and interpret a variety of financial statements, reports, and analyses;
- Skills in operating a calculator and/or a ten-key adding machine;
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA
Required Education
Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance
Required Work Experience
Two (2) years of accounting experience
Preferred Qualifications
-Five (5) years of related experience, with at least three (3) years in support of research and grant administration and grant budget development;
-Extensive working knowledge of federal and state regulatory agency rules and regulations regarding research and grants;
-MBA or CPA;
-Experience managing grants at a health professions school;
-Demonstrated knowledge of Uniform Guidance (UG) and financial audit and reporting requirements
