Nature of Work:

The CU College of Nursing is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) benefitted Health Care Technician position at Belleview Point (BVP), a Federally Qualified Health Center located in Aurora, CO (zip code: 80015). Health Care Technicians support specific service lines within the clinic (pediatrics, primary care, and behavioral health) but will be cross-trained to work across those areas as well. Applicants should be educated & trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), or Medical Assistants (MAs).

Examples of Work Performed:
  • The position requires the ability to work with both pediatric and adult populations and the ability to flex between adult, pediatric, and behavioral health /psychiatric clinics, as staffing needs arise.

Direct Patient Care: 80% / Administrative Functions: 20%
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the challenges of patients with reduced access to economic and health resources, and demonstrate enthusiasm to help support these patients both in the clinics and remotely by phone or Tele-Health (Zoom)
  • Greet patients and families courteously and complete standard patient check-in procedures in person and remotely using Tele-Health and other technology
  • Utilize the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to:
  • Measure and document vital signs and notify providers of out-of-range values
  • Review and complete medication reconciliation
  • Accurately document the patient's chief complaint and health history
  • Prepare and coach patients for provider examinations and assist providers with examinations and procedures, as needed
  • Perform standard patient screening tests using apps and advanced technological tools for secure HIPAA-compliant communication workflow in the clinic (high-speed laptops, iPads, MS Teams /Jabber)
  • Perform phlebotomy and follow safe lab procedures for the proper collection and handling of other lab specimens
  • Perform basic wound care and first aid
  • Provide patient education about office policies, lab results medications, diagnoses, treatment, plan of care, and follow-up phone calls
  • Prepare, administer and electronically document medications within scope (i.e.Depo-Provera) with provider authorization
  • Administer immunization, maintain immunization records, and complete annual immunization training within the timeline set by the supervisor
  • Perform clerical and administrative duties regularly and as needed, including covering front desk staff, and answering overflow incoming calls during absences and busy times
  • Courteously answer phone and schedule appointments, fax and upload orders, internal and external records/report
  • Work with the MA team to maintain supply inventory through tracking and stocking, including maintenance of sterilized instruments. Also places orders for replacements through the Compliance Officer
  • Fax prescriptions to the pharmacy as requested by providers and participates in insurance Prior Authorizations (PARs), as needed
  • Engage with community partners as needed including public health agencies, specialty/outside provider offices, local hospitals and free-standing healthcare facilities
  • Attend regular team huddles, team meetings and staff meeting as part of performance expectations
  • Utilize robust CU learning a,nd development opportunities to further knowledge and grow in position

Minimum Qualifications:

Medical Assistant I:
  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program

Medical Assistant II:
  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program
  • One year of experience working as a medical assistant

Substitutions:

Medical Assistant
  • One year of medical assistant experience may substitute for completion of an accredited program and is in addition to any required years of experience.

Nursing Aide / Licensed Practical Nurse / Emergency Medical Technician
  • Completion of an accredited program, Colorado state licensure, and years of experience in any of these fields may substitute for medical assistant-specific requirements

Current Registered Nursing Student
  • Colorado State Certified Nurse Aid licensure may substitute for completion of of an accredited medical assistant program

  • Experience with injections, vaccine administration, and documentation

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

Medical Assistant I: $40,908 to $47,455.20

Medical Assistant II: $42,948 to $49,826.40

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
