Assistant Professor of Public Health
Simmons College
The Department of Public Health at Simmons College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to commence in fall 2017. This position will support a new online Master of Public Health in Health Equity, launching in October 2017, along with related campus-based undergraduate and graduate programming. The Public Health Program at Simmons is a unique, interdisciplinary program that currently supports a vibrant undergraduate BA and BS in Public Health, and the new online MPH in Health Equity. We are seeking a candidate to contribute to the overall vision and growth of the MPH Program, and to design and coordinate the culminating Health Equity Change Project. This unique learning experience supports students through a two-course sequence as they design, implement and evaluate a project to advance health equity in the context of an applied practicum in their local setting. The candidate will also offer MPH coursework focused on health equity, health disparities and the social determinants of health; community-based research and community organizing; and/or other areas of related interest.
The successful candidate will have a DrPH, or a PhD with an MPH (ABD candidates also considered), with a strong record of scholarly publication, evidence of teaching excellence, and effective leadership in an academic setting. Preference will be given to candidates with a record of applied scholarship and teaching focused on health disparities, the social determinants of health, and community-based or policy-oriented models of health equity intervention; prior success with online teaching will also be considered favorably. We are especially interested in candidates who will enrich the diversity of our program's faculty.
