Simmons College
As a part of the Student Affairs division, the Coordinator of Health Education and Wellness Programs will provide leadership in the development, planning, implementation, coordination, assessment, and continuous improvement of a comprehensive health, wellness and prevention program to enhance the physical and emotional well being of undergraduate and graduate students.
The roles and responsibilities of the Coordinator include, but are not limited to the following duties:
Working in partnership with the various constituents on campus (i.e. Counseling Center, Health Services, Disability Services, and the Campus Life team) to oversee, execute and promote targeted health promotion and prevention programs;
Liaise with colleagues across the College divisions including faculty, staff and students to execute a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to promoting healthy lifestyles and
behaviors;
Builds and advocates for community momentum and motivation around campus health
and prevention initiatives;
Assist with hiring and managing both student and contract fitness instructors, including coordinating/scheduling a variety of fitness classes and the fitness studios' operations
Selects, trains and mentors Wellness Ambassadors, undergraduate/graduate
intern/student assistants;
In collaboration with the Wellness Ambassadors, implement, effective health promotion and
prevention programs on topics including Alcohol and Drug Awareness; Healthy Eating; HIV/AIDS Education; Stress Management; Sexual Assault; Smoking Cessation; Healthy Relationships and Fitness;
Participates on campus-wide committees representing and promoting the health and prevention initiative and advocates for students' concerns;
Coordinates with nutritionist on outreach efforts and relevant programming;
Interfaces and communicates with faculty, parents, and other college offices regarding both programming and individual student concerns;
Research and communicate wellness education and harm reduction information presented at Orientation;
Serve as part of the Campus Life team on an as needed bases which may include assisting with programming and staffing during Orientation, Commencement, and other scheduled college events;
Contributes to annual budgeting processand ensures that the programs are managed in a fiscally responsible manner;
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication and strong interpersonal skills.
Solid program development and presentation skills are essential.
Ideal candidate must be innovative, motivated, and able to work effectively with internal and external constituents.
Must be familiar with technological solutions to communicate information and motivate individuals while maintaining student confidentiality in situations when required; and the ability to work well in team situations as well as independently.
Strong analytical skills and knowledge of higher education settings are preferred.
Additionally:
Bachelor's degree in Health Education, Exercise Science, Health Promotion or related field, or, equivalent experience.
Minimum of 2-4 years of demonstrated health programming;
Experience with health promotion, wellness and prevention in a college setting is strongly preferred.
This is a 12 month full time position.
