The Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Assistant Professor positions in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of of health policy, health economics, behavioral economics, and/or health outcomes. Preference is for researcher(s) interested in developing and evaluating interventions in partnership with health care payers, providers, and systems. Applicants must have an M.D. or Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree.

Teaching responsibilities may include medical students, residents, clinical fellows, undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral trainees.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include establishing an innovative and independent research program that will attract and maintain extramural funding from government agencies, private foundations and industry.

The position will be based in the Health Policy Division within the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy. The Division has a broad array of faculty who do research in domestic and global health policy with a wide range of topic areas including health services, physician and patient behavior change, economics of aging, anti-poverty policy, HIV policy, food policy, and other areas. The successful applicant for this position will:
(1) Demonstrate their ability to develop and maintain a high-impact research program including extramurally funded projects;
(2) Increase the Department's instructional and research capacity in their area of focus;
(3) Contribute to the Department's mission through serving on committees and collaborating with other faculty members, staff, students, partners, and community stakeholders.

This position is being funded in collaboration with the Health Care Transformation Institute, co-led by Drs. Ezekiel Emanuel and Amol Navathe. The Institute is dedicated to designing and evaluating interventions aimed at improving care quality, equity, and reducing costs. Key research projects currently involve, but are not limited to: bundled payments, equity-based payment, primary care capitation, physician feedback reporting, end of life care, and improving equity in risk adjustment. The successful candidate(s) will have opportunities to collaborate on and be the principal investigator on intervention studies while also building their own research agenda. A key role will be cultivating collaborative projects with research partners. Experience with observational studies using statistical and/or econometric methods is necessary; additional experience with prospective studies in experimental economics or clinical trials is preferred. The successful candidate's research interests will focus on health policy, health economics, behavioral economics, and/or health outcomes.
