Job Summary:
The Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner for its pediatric practice at the Children's Hospital of Colorado in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The qualified candidate will be appointed to the rank of Instructor within the department. As an active member of the pediatric team, the candidate will work closely with experienced pediatric otolaryngologists in both the outpatient and inpatient setting to support a busy practice focusing on the management of complex pediatric otolaryngology patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- The physician assistant/nurse practitioner will work under the supervision of the faculty otolaryngologist to provide both inpatient and outpatient care.
- The physician assistant/nurse practitioner will be expected to support all facets of the outpatient clinical service to include the following: manage new and return patient visits, provide pre-operative and post-operative education and care, and coordination of care with providers within and outside the practice setting. This will take place in concert with RN and MA staff already in place.
- The candidate will be trained to perform both office-based and hospital-based procedures such as fiberoptic laryngoscopy, nasal endoscopy, management of tracheostomy tubes, simple biopsies, nasal cautery, microscopic ear examination and cleaning/debridement.
- The scope of inpatient duties includes performing morning patient rounds, completing discharge summaries, performing in-patient and out-patient consults, and assisting on surgical cases. He/she will be expected to be involved in patient education as well as obtaining surgical consents. Communication with PCPs and other CHCO physicians by phone is also expected.
- The candidate will become proficient in the electronic medical record (EMR) system used by the hospital.
- Assist in the education of nurses and medical assistants in the field of otolaryngology.
- Provide administrative support and thorough follow-up to ensure orderly, effective, and superior patient care. This may include the development and implementation of educational materials or protocols for staff and patients.
- While not required at this time, overnight call, evening, weekend, and holiday work/call may be required in the future.
Work Location: This role is expected to work onsite in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
- For applicants with an NP degree, it is required to have an Acute Care Certification.
- For those NP candidates who have worked at least 5 years in a related pediatric inpatient setting, the candidate would be required to enroll in and complete an acute care certification within 4 years of hire.
- For those NP candidates who have less than 5 years' experience in a related pediatric inpatient setting, the candidate would be required to enroll in and complete an acute care certification within 2 years of hire.
- For applicants with an NP degree, it is required to have an Acute Care Certification.
- Ability to obtain a Colorado PA or NP license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Pediatric or Otolaryngology practice.
- Pediatric Otolaryngology experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to function both independently and in collaboration with other health care professionals.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a variety of health care specialists, staff, and service areas.
