Job Overview
The Research Assistant in a biomedical laboratory in the Department of Oncology has the opportunity to contribute to exciting research on gene regulation in cancer and aging. They contribute to exciting research on gene regulation in cancer and aging; and participate in active research projects culminating in publications.
As well, they support the day-to-day functioning of the laboratory - engaging in both laboratory research and managerial activities - for example, working with other lab members to perform lab experiments, analyze data, purchase research materials, and maintain proper records of chemicals and reagents.
Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation
Reporting directly to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Assistant engages in both laboratory research and managerial activities - for example, working with other lab members to perform lab experiments, record and analyze data, purchase research materials, and maintain proper records of chemicals and reagents, etc.
As well, they interact with vendors, the Georgetown purchase department, and the neighboring laboratories.
This position has been designated as On-Campus. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field - preference for a Master's degree in same
- 1 year of experience as part of a research team in an academic setting and 2 to 4 years of experience in molecular and cellular biology (PCR, cloning, western blot, mammalian cell culture, microscopy - preference for laboratory experience performing molecular biology experiments and animal management
- Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills
- Ability to work as a part of a team, to mentor, and to train new members on routine techniques
- Working experience in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Preferred Qualifications
Basic computer programming and/or genomic data analysis skills
Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$41,926.00 - $65,090.00
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
