Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant (MA/CMA) is responsible for providing patient care under the direction under the direction of a physician or another healthcare provider. The MA/CMA works to facilitate clinic workflow, assist patients, and ensure safe, seamless delivery of care for each patient.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Accurately rooms patients, obtains & records vital signs, patient history, and reason for seeking care.
  • Accurately records patient charges for medications, supplies, equipment, labs, and procedures.
  • Provides patient care in a safe, comfortable, and private environment.
  • Assists in tracking patient follow-up and compliance.
  • Assists the providers with patient education pertain to their ongoing care.
  • Prepares and/or coordinates referrals as directed by the provider.
  • Performs appropriate basic and/or routine regular delegated medical functions as directed and within appropriate scope of practice as inferred by knowledge, skill level, and CU clinic guidelines.

Work Location:

Onsite - This role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Health Care Tech I (MA):
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program OR have one year of medical assistant work experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross healthcare provider-level CPR certification.

Health Care Tech II (CMA):
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Completion of accredited CMA program and pass the National Medical Assistant Certification Exam (i.e. AAMA or NCCT).
  • Current CMA certification (i.e. AAMA, NCCT).
  • Current healthcare provider level CPR certification.
  • 1 year health care experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree.
  • 1+ year CMA experience in medical office setting.
  • Medical office experience in area of specialty.
  • EPIC experience.
  • Bilingual, Spanish-speaking.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado.
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.

  • Strong knowledge of value-based care and risk-based coding procedures in Primary Care.
  • Strong knowledge of medication and injection procedures.
  • Ability to safely administer a variety of treatments and medications as directed.
  • Ability to use various types of equipment for examination and treatment procedures.
  • Ability to accurately take and record vital signs.
  • Ability to accurately reconcile patient medications.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to adhere to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance.
  • MS Office: Outlook, Power Point, Word.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels, including physicians, leadership, and staff.
  • Ability to work within large, complex healthcare systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and communicate in person, by phone or in writing.
  • Ability to interpret, communicate and document with proper medical terminology.
  • Ability to recognize/interpret the physical exam process and record exam details.
  • Ability to attest to computer proficiency and learn new computer applications.
  • Ability to keyboard/type, write legibly, and accurately record information.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Ability to organize workflow with particular focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow.
  • Ability to maintain professional demeanor.
  • Ability to deal calmly and courteously with people.
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations.
  • Ability to manage time and work tasks.
  • Ability to finish tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and established procedures.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The hiring range for this position has been established as:

Health Care Tech I (MA): $39,720 to $46,075

Health Care Tech II (CMA): $41,700 to $48,377

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
