POSITION: Faculty and Assistant Director, Nurse Anesthesiology Program (FT)

Effective immediately: Full-time Faculty, Assistant Director, Nurse Anesthesiology Program – College of Health Professions and Natural Sciences, Division of Nursing - Wilmington University.

Requirements:
A Doctorate Degree in Nursing or a related field is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required. Current certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) is required. An active and unencumbered RN/APRN license, with eligibility for licensure as a CRNA in Delaware is required. Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as a CRNA, with experience in nurse anesthesia education or academic leadership. Two years of experience teaching in a nurse anesthesiology program is preferred. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Prior experience in COA accreditation processes and regulatory compliance, prior experience with curriculum development and assessment in graduate-level education, and experience in simulation-based education and clinical coordination is preferred A well-developed portfolio demonstrating accomplishments in teaching, scholarship, and service, reflecting a commitment to academic excellence and professional growth. Proven leadership and active involvement within professional organizations, demonstrating the ability to contribute to the advancement of the nurse anesthesia profession and advocate for educational and clinical standards. Experience in scholarly project oversight, including guiding doctoral students through the development, execution, and presentation of scholarly projects or dissertations, ensuring the projects align with program goals and contribute to the field is preferred. Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Knowledge of Wilmington University database management systems (e.g., Canvas LMS, Banner, BDM, Recruit, or other Microsoft-based Student Information System) is required. Detail-oriented and able to work with diverse populations. Demonstrated knowledge of Zoom and Teams Video Conferencing. Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines in a service-oriented environment with competing demands. Self-directed, independent worker with sound logic and reasoning in identifying alternatives or approaches to problem-solving. Must demonstrate respect for diversity in the workplace and a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive work environment that values the contributions of all employees. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
  • Assist the Director in ensuring compliance with COA accreditation standards and requirements, CCNE standards, and other regulatory organizations.

  • Participate in strategic planning, program development, and curriculum design to ensure continuous improvement and program growth.

  • Collaborate with the Director in managing faculty recruitment, orientation, and evaluation.

  • Assume the responsibilities of the Director, if required.

  • Serve as an advisor for students, monitoring academic progress, addressing concerns, and providing guidance on clinical and academic performance.

  • Assist in student recruitment, selection, and retention processes, including admissions interviews and evaluations.

  • Collaborate with clinical coordinators to schedule clinical placements and ensure students meet clinical competency requirements.

  • Work with clinical partners to ensure that clinical sites meet educational standards and provide a diverse range of clinical experiences for students.

  • Conduct regular site visits to assess clinical education quality and maintain strong relationships with clinical affiliates.

  • Ensure students and clinical coordinators have up-to-date credentialing and compliance documentation.

  • Teach assigned courses within the nurse anesthesiology program.

  • Assist in developing and updating course syllabi and educational materials to align with COA standards and evolving practice requirements.

  • Participate in student evaluations and assess learning outcomes to support programmatic excellence.

  • Comply with the Wilmington University Teaching Expectations document.

  • Assist with the preparation of reports and documents required for COA accreditation and other regulatory bodies.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of program policies and procedures, ensuring they meet accreditation standards.

  • Assist with maintaining accurate records for accreditation compliance, including student performance and clinical data.

  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for faculty, promoting a collaborative and supportive educational environment.

  • Engage in and promote annual professional development activities, including formal instruction in areas related to academia, such as curriculum design, pedagogy, assessment strategies, online teaching, and advancements in educational technology, to ensure faculty remain current in both clinical practice and educational methodologies.

  • Promote professional growth, and contribute to the enhancement of teaching, service, and scholarship within the program.

  • Maintain clinical competence by actively engaging in clinical practice, ensuring that both faculty and leadership continue to demonstrate proficiency in nurse anesthesia practice while staying current with industry standards and best practices.

  • Oversee scholarly projects, providing guidance and support to students in the development, execution, and presentation of their DNP projects, ensuring alignment with program goals and contributions to nurse anesthesia practice.

  • Collect and analyze program outcomes data, including certification exam pass rates, clinical competencies, graduation rates, and employment data.

  • Support the Director in coordinating the ongoing review process to assess and improve program outcomes in alignment with COA and institutional goals.

  • Assist the Director in developing and implementing a systematic evaluation plan that includes regular assessments of program effectiveness, student performance, clinical site quality, and faculty contributions, ensuring continuous quality improvement and compliance with accreditation standards.

  • Utilize the results of the systematic evaluation plan to guide strategic decisions, curricular revisions, and programmatic enhancements, ensuring that the program remains responsive to evolving educational and healthcare demands.

  • Represent the Nurse Anesthesiology Program at institutional meetings, conferences, and events.

  • Foster partnerships with healthcare organizations and professional communities to support program growth and student opportunities.

  • Participate in University and community outreach activities, contributing to the visibility and reputation of the program.

  • Participate in program advisory committees.

  • Collaborate with University Relations to promote the visibility and growth of the nurse anesthesiology program, facilitating relationships with stakeholders and affiliate organizations of interest.

  • Comply with the Wilmington University Faculty Handbook.

  • Support the Wilmington University Institutional Priorities.

  • Demonstrate high levels of competence in oral and written communications with all stakeholders (students, faculty, staff, administration, and the community).

  • Promote and foster an inclusive and diverse environment for all students, faculty, and staff.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director and/or Academic Dean.

Hours of Employment: Generally, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., depending on the needs of the department(s) and/or the University. The incumbent must maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the needs of the University and the College. The incumbent's schedule must be flexible enough to cover both teaching and meeting responsibilities which may include evening courses and weekend activities (e.g., commencement, conference on teaching excellence). These responsibilities may extend beyond normal working hours and days. Travel to other Wilmington University sites is required. Travel to clinical partnership sites is also required.
