CCC seeks to hire a Health Science Instructor [part-time] position. The CCC Health Sciences department is located at the Harmony Campus. Work will include online and in person instruction. On-boarding will begin on December 23rd with first training assignment on January 6th.

This position is expected to provide high quality instruction to health science students in classroom, laboratory, and clinical setting, in accordance with college and department mission, vision and values, part-time faculty bargaining agreement, federal and state regulations, and program accreditation standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends. Ability to work in person at the Harmony Campus, visit local high schools in person, and deliver online instruction when assigned. Instructional assignments are term by term and based on need.
  • Academic assignments include: teaching HP-110 Medical Terminology.
  • Non-academic assignments include: Promoting Health Sciences to high schools within Clackamas County


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Develop course objectives and methods designed to meet instructional goals and course outlines.
  • Instruct students in various health science courses.
  • Establish and maintain a well-disciplined and orderly classroom learning environment; observe and evaluate students' work site performance.
  • Establish and maintain safety policies and procedures for classrooms.
  • Evaluate students' performance by assessing needs, testing skills and knowledge, and then communicating results to students.
  • Communicate effectively with students, instructors and administrators.
  • Evaluate, select, develop, and adapt a variety of appropriate instructional materials.
  • Promote student and community wide awareness of CTE programs.
  • Maintain a variety of complete and accurate records for necessary reports.
  • Maintain and update occupational skills as they pertain to the course material.
  • Participate in non-academic activities by visiting local high schools in Clackamas County and promote Health Science programs.


AUXILIARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • May provide assistance to other department personnel as workload and staffing levels dictate. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.


Qualifications




MINIMUM/MANDATORY EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Associate's degree that is healthcare industry specific and/or certification or licensure, which could include:
  • LPN, RN, CMA(AAMA), AEMT, EMT, or Oregon Paramedic



EXPERIENCE:

At least 4 years of work experience in the healthcare field with proof of health care knowledge and technical skills, trade, or vocations to be taught are required. Teaching adult learners healthcare skills.

KNOWLEDGE:
Thorough knowledge of the subject area(s) appropriate for the class being taught including demonstrated knowledge of the medical field including medical terminology, pathophysiology, knowledge of approved and effective student testing and evaluation methods and techniques; knowledge of appropriate curriculum and necessary instructional materials for assigned subject area(s).

SKILL:
Specific skills necessary to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Successful instruction of students in the assigned area of healthcare vocational training and career development; effective communication skills including written and oral; and the ability to understand and interpret laws and regulations.

ABILITIES:
Required to schedule activities; gather, collate, and/or classify data; use basic job-related equipment; perform and teach medical terminology. Establish appropriate learning goals and objectives as well as effective lesson plans; effectively communicate orally and in writing; establish and maintain approved and effective discipline and order in a classroom and work site environment; and guide and advise students regarding assigned technical/vocational area(s).

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree preferred. 4 years work experience preferred.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish language preferred)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION:

While performing the duties to this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis such as papers, files, boxes, equipment, computers, etc., and rarely requires moving materials weighing over 25 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, monitor, projector, calculator, printer, and standard office equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work environment includes classroom, lab, or other setting as appropriate.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision of other personnel is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel, and may assign work to student workers.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general direction of the Director, Health Sciences.
